The figurative work of artist CLEMENT KWAN is filled with light, colour and movement. “I like to express happiness,” he says, “I use my skills to create paintings that will give people joy and hope – my way for helping to make the world a better place.”
Clement was born in China where he loved to draw and paint from an early age and where he obtained a basic art training. He emigrated to Canada in 1979 and it was here that most of his artistic knowledge and achievements were gained, through decades of dedicated self-education.
Clement’s approach to painting is to combine impressionism with realism. His inspirations include the later impressionism of John Singer Sargent, the virtuoso work of Joaquin Sorolla, and the paintings of a childhood friend, artist Mian Situ. Clement has participated in many art shows in the U.S. and Canada and has won numerous awards. He is a Senior Signature Member (the highest status) of the Federation of Canadian Artists, and a Signature Member of the Oil Painters of America. He currently lives in Victoria, British Columbia.
